Healing Music for Body and Spirit

Nancy is also a Certified Music Practitioner who is specially trained to play music in health care settings. She is a 2003 graduate of the Music for Healing and Transition Program ("MHTP"). MHTP professionally trains and certifies musicians to provide live therapeutic music at the bedside to create a healing environment, and also collaborates with healthcare facilities and community organizations to educate about, and promote research in, the effectiveness of therapeutic music in the healing process and the life/death transition.

Live music has been shown to relax the mind and body and to enhance the healing process. Music is being used successfully with many kinds of patients, including the temporarily ill and injured, the chronically ill, the critically ill, Alzheimer's patients, premature babies, birthing mothers, the comatose and the dying.

Certified Music Practitioners provide a service, not entertainment. They are trained to provide therapeutic music in an unobtrusive manner, and their playing is not meant to be a performance or a concert. Nothing is required of the patient, and it is not necessary for the patient to interact with the practitioner. The type of music played depends on the condition and needs of the patient.

Nancy is certified on both the hammered dulcimer and the Native American flute. She has extensive experience playing in health care settings, most recently for Signature Hospice, Legacy Meridian Park Hospital and the Knight Cancer Institute of Oregon Health Sciences University. She is available to play directly for individuals or through health care providers.
